Andy Kain signs for the Rams

Tuesday 17 Nov 2015 7:39pm

Dewsbury Rams are pleased to announce their second new signing of the day in the shape of half-back Andy Kain.

Kain arrives at the Rams following a short spell with Hunslet Hawks, and with a wealth of Championship honours to his name.

The 30-year-old former Castleford Tigers and Widnes Vikings player, who has Super League Experience, scored 129 tries in 210 appearances for Featherstone Rovers before departing ahead of the 2015 season.

Kain is a three-time Championship All Stars member, having earned selection in 2009, 2011 and 2012, and a veteran of five Grand Final appearances.

The Rams latest recruit will play a key role as part of a half-back division which already contains promising youngsters James Glover, Brad Delaney, Dom Speakman and Ben Reynolds.

“I’m definitely pleased to be here at the Rams. They’re a team that’s improved quite a lot during the last couple of years and I’m here to help them continue that progress,” said Kain.

“They’ve made some good signings ahead of next season and it feels great to be a part of that group.

“Glenn’s a coach with some good experience, too, which is a factor.”

Having already cemented his legacy as one of the Championship’s top half-backs of the last five years, Kain says he is hoping to help his new team-mates develop while targeting a return to top form.

“I’m hoping to add something to the Rams’ attacking game and help develop some of the young players at the club.

“I have my own goals for what I want to do as a Dewsbury player, but hopefully I can provide some of the other younger half-backs with a little guidance too.

“I’m looking forward to getting some combinations going with my new team-mates, which I hope can get me back to my best form.

“2015 was a little up and down at Hunslet,” Kain added, “and I picked up an injury at the back end, so it’ll be nice to get a full pre-season under my belt and get back to some good form.”

Rams boss Glenn Morrison says he’s pleased to be able to add a player of Kain’s undoubted ability and experience to his creative options.

“Andy became available recently and is a player recognised as being one of the half-backs in the competition during recent seasons,” said Morrison.

“Next season he’ll be playing on the back of a pack that will be going forward and he’ll create a lot of things for us.

“He wants to get back to his best and if we can get him on the front foot then he’ll be very dangerous for us.

“With the forward pack we’ve got and the younger halves in the side, he’s going to be ideal for us.

“He can score points and he’s a really good leader who can get teams round the park.

“I’m excited to work with him. He’s one of the final pieces of the jigsaw and it puts us in a position where we’ve got depth in every single position.”

The 2016 Dewsbury Rams home and away shirts will be unveiled and made available to pre-order on Tuesday 1 December.

The shirts – plus a range of leisurewear – will be put on general sale at a special Season Launch evening Wednesday 16 December.

More details to follow later this week.
