Rams add Trout on one-year deal

Tuesday 17 Nov 2015 7:38pm

Dewsbury Rams are delighted to announce the signing of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats back-rower Kyle Trout on a one-year deal.

Trout, 24, has made 24 Super League appearances for the Wildcats, including two in 2015.

He also spent time on loan last season with Whitehaven and Hunslet Hawks, and made an appearance for Featherstone Rovers on dual-registration.

And the former Stanley Rangers amateur player admits he’ll relish the opportunity for a more settled season upon his arrival at The Tetley’s Stadium.

“I’m really pleased to have signed for the club,” said Trout.

“I’ve spoken to quite a few people who play here, or who have played here in the past, and they can’t speak highly enough of the environment.

“This move gives me some consistency and the opportunity to settle down, which I am confident will bring out the best in my game.”

The transfer to the Rams re-unites Trout with Rams head coach Glenn Morrison, who he worked alongside at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats during the early stages of his career.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my development with Glenn,” said Trout.

“I played alongside him and I worked under him when he made the transition in to coaching.

“He really helped me to perform at my best and I made my Super League debut at that time.

“Having that consistency as a player, and working with him, will make a big difference.”

Trout added that he hopes to add aggression and leadership to the Rams pack.

“I’ve been told that I have an aggressive style of play, but mostly I feel like I have a strong carry and that I am fairly quick for my size.

“I want to be involved as much as I can be and get some good game time.

“That will give me the opportunity to hopefully lead by example and show everyone what I can do.”

Rams boss Morrison says he’s delighted to be able to bring Trout to the club, as one of the final components in his 2016 squad.

“I’ve coached Trouty for a number of years, and he’s a Super League player, but he’s been unfortunate to have moved around a lot in the last couple of years,” said the coach.

“He’s looking for a home, somewhere where he’s wanted, where he can knuckle down and show what he can do.

“Kyle is a good kid and a great player. He’s very strong and is really committed to training.

“I think we will see the best of him in 2016.”

The 2016 Dewsbury Rams home and away shirts will be unveiled and made available to pre-order on Tuesday 1 December.

The shirts – plus a range of leisurewear – will be put on general sale at a special Season Launch evening Wednesday 16 December.

More details to follow later this week.
