Morrison: Workington always a good battle

Glenn Morrison’s Dewsbury Rams found themselves in a real arm wrestle against Swinton Lions last week: “We expected it,” he said. “With teams who get promoted it’s always going to be their Grand Final to prove that they deserve to be the competition. They didn’t disappoint us, they played really strong and we were a long way off the mark completion-wise which made it very difficult for us. But we got the two points, which at the end of the day, that’s what you’re going for.

“Workington have always had a good battle with us over the last few years. Myself and Phil (Veivers) have known each other for a while. They’ve got a few injuries but they want to be in a similar spot to us as the end of the year so they’ll be wanting to get the two points.”

Loose forward Aaron Brown (knee) and prop Jake Teanby (eye) are doubts for Dewsbury.

Workington Town lost 42-12 at home to Sheffield Eagles in their opening fixture. Coach Phil Veivers said: “We were probably below average last week. Dewsbury are a pretty big, mobile unit. They’ve got some threats in the halves and pace in the outside backs. If we’re not on our mettle they’re going to cause us some problems.

“We always tend to have a decent game up there and I think last time we were there in the league we picked up a draw. We’ve still got eight players out and it’s not the ideal start to a season you’d want injury-wise but it gives the blokes with the shirts an opportunity to see what they can do.”
