Doncaster aiming to deliver at Summer Bash

Friday 22 May 2015 1:03pm

Doncaster believe that a win at the Summer Bash could turn their season around.

The South Yorkshire team are rooted at the bottom of the Kingstone Press Championship without a win in 13 outings and at the beginning of this week lost their coach Paul Cooke.

They face Hunslet Hawks on Sunday (3.00pm) and are hoping that the new surroundings and atmosphere at Bloomfield Road will inspire them to claim their first points of the season.

Doncaster loose forward Mike Emmett said: “It’s been very tough to be honest, something hasn’t dropped this year. It’s hard to put your finger on and it’s obviously resulted in Paul (Cooke) losing his job.

“I think everybody’s low on confidence. The games which we should have been competing in, we didn’t seem to raise our game, we only seemed to do that against the big teams.”

But Emmett, who is in his fifth season with the club, believes that if Doncaster pick up a win this weekend they’ll kick on. “Everybody will get that little bit of belief back,” he said.

“Without sounding harsh, it’s like a fresh start for everybody. Nobody has played at the Summer Bash before, so everyone will be excited; it’s on television so that might raise a few people to go that little bit more. The lads are looking forward to it, it’s up to us.

“We need some points on the board. We’ve still got the season to finish and the Super 8s, so it’s still not over.

“At Doncaster we’ve always had a good group of guys, a tight group. This weekend we’ve got to take it upon ourselves to raise our game and put in an extra 10 per cent.”
