The guy is right about our commentators, trouble is any knocking of our game is seen as an attack from Union, where the hell does union come into it. Too many league fans are so anti union it is unbelievable, we signed loads of the union men over the years and now they are signing more league men because they have a more cash rich game that we cannot compete with. Our coached and players see no problem with union so what is the problem with fans.
The 2 games are different, treat them as such, and stop being so blinkered in your thinking.
At the end of the day RL is probably the 3rd sport in the Uk after Football and RU.
We are a northern sport not a national sport for all the expansion that tries to spread the game.

I can understand your dislike of union even though I don't necessarily agree with what you say, but a lot of the complaints on this thread seem to be because the article was written in the Telegraph and they dislike the paper. Even those who agree with the sentiment of the article seem to change their stance when someone from 'outside' starts saying things about the game.

There's no reason to assume the journalist who wrote it has a vested interest or is a massive rugby union fan who wants to belittle the sport. He writes of football, cricket and golf, but has also written a few articles on rugby league. Nothing about the article was insulting towards the sport. It was, if anything, grudgingly complimentary, and I say grudgingly only because his articles generally don't pay many compliments to anything. Yes the guy can be a dick and also has been pretty damning of Salford in one article about the BBC (but then how many people from the north say anything positive about Salford? It's a shithole).

As I've said before, sometimes it makes sense to listen to the opinions of those who don't share your view on something. Even if the writer was a huge fan of rugby union it wouldn't necessarily make his points any less valid than those we read every day from journalists who are quite obviously biased towards the greatest game.
