That also has it's risk, especially if he goes to Vegas and loses....after losing his belt

The groves fight now is a massive money spinner!

Every fight has its risks.

You have to remember that the vegas thing is something he wants to do before he retires. A bit like calzaghe did. He doesn't need it. He desires it. There's a difference.

Its also a lower risk fight than groves. Chavez is alot smaller and its his first time at the weight.

How many belts does groves hold?

if groves plays his cards right and gets a bit of luck he will be offering froch 15% in 18 months time.

and froch will be accepting.

Froch won't be accepting 15% at this stage of his career.

To me, it doesn't matter whether the belts are there or not. They will sell out Wembley with or without a world title on the line. The money will always be there for this fight in the uk, be it in 90 days or 700 days. Its the only certainty for both of them.

Groves has a great future in the division, especially if degale pinches the wbc crown.

I have no clue what froch will do. Just putting a few scenarios out there.

There is time to fight groves as chavez is fighting in march.

Frochs takin a risk with Chavez but he has the belts & legacy in place. He could go on to other decent fights if needed. Groves, as well as he did has so far aimed for the stars & hit the roof, he could end up having another shot at another world level fighter & still not be quite up to make the 12 rnds. Froch will be retired in 18 month, it'll be interesting to see where groves is at.

RE: Knocking One Out - Cheese - 01-24-2014 09:15 PM

i dont know, if froch were to lose his next 2 fights and groves were to beat say....ward, then degale.....u think hes gonna need froch then?? bit of a long shot, sure but the bigger fights are gonna be the on scene guys, not an over the hill(by then) froch.

RE: Knocking One Out - drsrhino - 01-24-2014 09:26 PM

If he isnt willing to accept 15% then ward wont be that bothered. Groves brings nothing to the table. He hasn't got a massive fan base like hatton, he hasn't got any belts and he is coming off a loss against the only world class fighter he has faced. Doesn't matter how he dresses it up, thems the facts. Thems the facts that dictates that he gets less money vs anyone above him in the rankings and a fair few below him.

If he wins a fight vs a name, or a belt then its his turn to call the shots. Until then, he has to suck it up and try to prise open the door.

RE: Knocking One Out - Cheese - 01-24-2014 09:32 PM

as u said, he brings his part of a sold out wembley, no one else delivers that for froch and thats why he deserves more than 15 for that fight. sure, he would have to accept it for ward, and might well do but for a froch rematch, its gotta be more.

But froch is saying he is getting a good deal to fight chavez. Granted not as much as a groves rematch but its something froch has talked about.

My point stands regarding groves bringing nothing to the table. There is only froch he has that with. If froch doesn't need it.......

15% of alot is more than 100% of nothing. Thats his choice.

After today, groves is now guaranteed a title fight either vs froch or for the vacant belt. If he wins the belt then he is in a far better position for negotiation.

If he won the belt, would he want to fight froch? I doubt it if froch were to lose his remaining belt.

Either way, we, the punters, should be ecstatic at todays decision by the ibf.

agree about the decision, gives us a chance to see some tasty fights, and soon too, at least unless greed plays too big a part. hopefully degale wins , groves too, whoever its against and they all are forced by circumstances or sanctioning bodies to fight each other.

its like the benn/eubank/watson era again, potentially.
