NRL Salary Cap Increase
A big increase in NRL salary cap of upto $5m proposed from 2013. It dwarfs our £1.65m and it will make it more difficult to recruit quality players and also easier for the NRL clubs to sign up our top players.Let's hope there is not a big exodus to the NRL.

RE: NRL Salary Cap Increase
i cant imagine a big exodus, there isnt a large number of top drawer players who would interest nrl teams.

RE: NRL Salary Cap Increase
This is bitter sweet for British clubs.

On the one hand we won't be able to attract a certain quality of Australian and NZ player over here now because there is no real reason for even a squad rotation players to make the jump (Around 80 extra roster spots, including a new franchise will be made available.) Although you can still expect a sprinkling. I just hope the likes of Gary Hetherington don't resort to bringing over further average Aussies like he said he intends to.

On the other, this gives us an excellent opportunity to further develop our own players and more players will get starting spots in SL teams because there will not be as many antipodeans over here by 2014/15. This will also be good for the lower league teams because they can then look to snap up good players who just don't quite make it at the top SL level.

As Cheese says there will not be an exodus of British talent. The reasons now are the same reasons as before - the NRL does not need British players to pad out their league because they can do it easily themselves with their own junior development programs and local players.

I agree with the general sentiment here; indeed, I'd take it further, I think it's positive for Britain. We don't get these 'pensioner' players, coming over here for a year or two, going through the motions and then p*ssing off. Okay, at the same score, we don't get the class acts who often finish their careers in Super League, but it altogether gives us the impetus, albeit enforced somewhat, to test how good are development systems really are. Short term loss, long term gain for England/Britain/Europe methinks.

RE: NRL Salary Cap Increase
the top players of superleague are already in the NRL,only a handful more would make it over there imo.
i think these measures are good for superleague, i would love to see all british teams against eachother.

RE: NRL Salary Cap Increase
The biggest effect here will be stopping NRL stars moving to Union. The days of top NRL players moving to SL finished a couple of years ago, when the $AUS went through the roof. "Big" SL money doesn't exist anymore. Players like Burgess and Graham are only getting about 60% of what our top players are on but in SL they would be top earners. If NRL clubs haven't bought any more SL players, it's because they haven't seen anyone worth the money. The "spare" Burgesses at Souths are just there to keep Sam happy. If Sam left the Bunnies, the commercial value of the other 2 would be minimal. There won't be any exodus from SL to NRL.

Is that a 'problem' over there? I haven't really noticed any big name player(s) move to union since Mason, really.
