England Academy coach Dave Elliott has named his 17-man squad to take on France Under-18s in La Reoule, France, tomorrow (Saturday May 25, 4.30pm).

The Academy squad made the journey across the Channel earlier this week and will be hoping to emulate the success of the England Youth team at Easter by defeating their French counterparts.

Elliott has retained six players from the 2012 tour of Australia in his starting line, including Wigan Warriors half-back pairing George Williams and Ryan Hampshire while Leeds Rhinos forward Jordan Baldwinson will captain the side.

“We know France will be strong and we’re expecting a very physical game,” said Elliott. “French sides at this level have continued to improve over recent seasons and the majority of their players have come through good youth systems at Catalan Dragons.

“But we have some very talented players in this group and I am confident that they will be able to put together the sort of performance that is required to get a good result.

“Travelling to a different country and contending with different cultures and food is a big learning experience for a lot of these lads and gives the players a great introduction to the kind of challenges they will face at Super League and senior international level.”
Hot on the heels of the Josh Papalii saga, controversial British prop Gareth Hock now wants out of his Eels deal. Hock has some personal issues – as well as a massive offer from Salford City Reds that landed on his manager’s desk over the past few days.
My spies in England tell me Hock is likely to renege on his Eels deal, even though the contract has been registered with the NRL, and take the big pounds on offer from Salford.

Now Trin is very good at declaring himself the winner regardless, I've hacked his PC and found his list on how to win no matter what (right between 'how to explain black is white' and 'SL conspiracies - the legend of the Rhino'):-
When addressing any Leeds fan - constantly question length of time as a Leeds fan (see 6 year old children for easy targets - they're on Westy's friends list) alternate by questioning games attended
We're gonna need to be 100% to have any chance IMO.

Drink-drive rules get tougher for serious offenders

Drink-drive rules involving the most serious offenders are to be tightened up from June 1, 2013, the DVLA has announced.

Under new regulations the most dangerous offenders will have to prove they are no longer dependent on alcohol before they are allowed to get back behind the wheel. The new measures will also see those drink-drivers who obstruct the police by refusing to allow their blood samples to be analysed being treated the same as other high risk offenders.

Currently, all high risk offenders must pass a medical examination before they can be issued with a driving licence following their disqualification. However, drivers can start driving as soon as they have applied for their licence and before they have taken and passed the necessary medical. But from June 1, the most dangerous drink-drivers will have to pass a medical confirming they are no longer alcohol dependent at the end of their disqualification and before they start driving.

Also, those offenders who refuse to allow their blood samples to be analysed will, from June 1, only get their licence back following disqualification if they pass the required medical.

Under the High Risk Offender (HRO) scheme, drivers convicted of certain serious drink/driving offences must have a medical investigation to confirm that there are no on-going problems with the misuse of alcohol before they can be issued with a licence.

High risk offenders are drivers who are:

• Convicted of two drink-driving offences within 10 years • Convicted of driving when they were at 2.5 times or more above the legal alcohol limit • Convicted for refusing to give the police a sample of breath, blood or urine to test for alcohol.

The DVLA is notified of such offenders by the courts. Last year the DVLA was notified by the courts of just over 50,000 drink-driving convictions.

Nearly 22,000 of those were classed as high risk offenders. Of those, around 5,000 drivers either failed, or failed to attend, their medical.

Road Safety Minister Stephen Hammond said: “Drink-drivers are a menace and it is right that we do everything we can to keep the most high risk offenders off the road.”

The Institute of Advanced Motorists’ director of policy and research Neil Greig said: “Persistent drink-drivers are a menace on our roads and these new rules will be welcomed by the law abiding majority.

”Numbers of repeat offenders are still far too high and the Government should urgently consider bringing in a vehicle forfieture scheme like that in Scotland. This has been a success with the strong sanction of having your car sold acting as a real deterrent. Enhanced drink-drive rehabilitation courses may also be an option for these problem drivers but ultimately their selfishness means that they deserve the strongest possible punishment.”
