RE: Angry Boys
I don't think it's as good as his previous 2. I thought "We can be Heroes" was the best. I've only seen one episode of Angry Boys. Most of the criticism out here is about the blackface character and I don't know why he did that rapper. This series was intended for US TV as well as here and that character will not go down well. I think the rapper is just too old - those jokes would have had more impact 10 or 20 years ago. It might also have been funnier if the character was white, because we have white rappers and hip hop artists here who come from private schools and comfortable middle class backgrounds and they are a joke.
The pushy Asian mother character resonates in OZ because it is such a common reality, not just a stereotype. The 2 brothers on the farm was done to death in the original series. Overall I've just seen it all before and this cringe-based humour only works properly the first time. There'd be no point in Ricky Gervais making The Office v 2.0 and there wasn't much point in Chris Lilley making Angry Boys.
