RE: looking at the signings weve made
The 2 lads you have signed from us are both decent signings. Cook for whatever reason never seemed to get a run in the side, played 8 scored 4 tries and always played well, but justin in his wisdom didn't see him fitting in his plans.Colbon had a terrific start for us but after breaking his jaw against the cats has never quite refound his top form, but after something like that his confidence will need rebuilding.Always made good ground from the play the ball and can i wish them both good luck with you.!

And, if the Red Bulls thing if true and if a success, could we see the Skolars adopt a new identity? You could have the 'Energy Drink Derby' London Red Bulls vs Haringey Blue Bears. "'SUID'? Yes... That's what they used to call me. 'Saint Until I Die'. That was my name. I am The Swede. And I come back to you now at the turn of the tide." |

RE: looking at the signings weve made
So explain to me how these youngsters develop off these signings when all that will happen is they either don't play or are used as cannon fodder in training? The short term gain is linked inextricably to long term failure if the whole sport it's as simple as that. At some point RL will realise this and do something about it.

RE: looking at the signings weve made
Im currently recruiting an apprentice who will undoubtedly come with no experience and we will have to teach him/her everything from making the tea to complex electronics. Point is do I employ an experienced foreigner or an unexperienced indiginous worker same choice but a real world position.
The foreigner will probably be better and easier in the short term but will also be likely to go home after a few years. The local guy will stay around longer and will then be in a position of experience in a few years time so we will have made our industry stonger if only in a tiny way. Short Term unfortunately is short term and so you cant plan an effective long term strategy because you only work with a short term fix. The Union World Cup starts tomorrow which will be a global sucess with viewing figures in the numbers RL can only dream about. They have a long term startegy with long term fixes. We can debate this till the cows come home but in the end we will still only have a sport based on imports and relying on imports. I'm old enough to remember only allowing a couple of imports per team and low and behold we could compete at the highest level, now we cant even raise a couple of teams of decent British players who cant compete any way. |

RE: looking at the signings weve made
if u had 10 vacancies in a newly formed company that would be a better analogy. u wouldnt hire 10 apprenticies and hope they picked it up in time. u would maybe hire 3 or 4 experienced workers and the rest apprentices, thereby ensuring ur company had the skills to complete tasks while still spreading the knowledge.

RE: looking at the signings weve made
i have to agree with cheese, the club cant throw youngsters in at the deep end and expect them to make a winning team.
the clubs done the right thing, if im honest perhaps signed one or two too many (didnt really need colbon or mark bryant) however not being used to signings of this magnitude i am savouring every one, if possible if they continue (still linked with a few others) i will be over the moon, however i expect the signings are all but over, with only mike burnett, youth players, contract renewals sort of expected.
