RE: Crusaders 60 Thatto Heath 28.....
Better late than never......
North Wales Crusaders 60-28 Thatto Heath By Ryan Gould at Parc Eirias North Wales Crusaders concluded their pre-season schedule at Parc Eirias with a win over National League Conference champions Thatto Heath. Crusaders were ahead within five minutes, as Rob Massam broke the visitors line and Kriss Wilkes went over in the corner. The away side were soon back into the contest though, as for the ten minutes after the opening try they dominated proceedings, perched on Crusaders’ line for most of it. Glenn Holland used the field position as he crashed over the line, taking the visitors into the lead. Adam Harper was also harshly penalised for a forward pass, which sent his team mate, Dave Hull collected in. The fans’ favourite Jono Smith put the home side back into the lead just minutes later though, with a near enough carbon copy of Holland’s try minutes earlier, as he pushed his way through the defence to score. The National Conference side looked nervous in defence and a few mistakes almost cost them, but some last resort play denied the home side extending their lead further. A fifthteen minute period before half time where Crusaders ran in four tries was the pivotal point in the game and all of them featured their talisman, Billy Sheen. He scored a brace of the tries as he found gaps in the Thatto Heath defence twice and exploited them to cross over. He then turned provider, as he broke the line to send Morrison over and he then shimmied across the line and passed to Adam Walsh who scored in the corner. North Wales Crusaders continued their try scoring spree after the interval. Rob Massam broke the line and ran in for a try. The visitors then pulled one back though. Luke Bradshaw was set up by Chris Frodsham, who ran through to score on the overlap. Andy Mosedale found another fault in the Thatto Heath defence, as he broke the line to score and took the home side into a thirty point lead. Thatto Heath replied once again, this time through Keiron Maddocks. He received the ball in the middle and then turned his back on the defence and span to ground the ball. Crusaders had yet another fifthteen minute period where they bagged four tries. Danny Hulme skipped his way through the Thatto Heath defence to score, before Sam Broadbent added another shortly after in the far corner. The other two tries for Crusaders before full time came from Christian Roets and Jono Smith respectively. The first where Christian Roets was sent through a gap down the wing and then Smith was just too strong for the visitors’ fatigued defence as he pushed over for his second. Thatto Heath went over for two consolation tries in the later stages, as Luke Bradshaw added his second and Jack Jones ran over for a score. This wasn’t enough though, as crucial stages in the game where Crusaders scored tries in quick succession cost them dearly. The home side will be pleased with their pre-season preparation, winning all five of their fixtures. Thatto Heath can take positives out of the game, scoring 28 points against Championship One opposition, but they’ll be looking to improve for the league fixture next weekend. Nah, that's where we differ, see. Wigan vs Thatto Heath in the fourth round, I want Wigan to win to be honest, as much as it pains me to say it. "'SUID'? Yes... That's what they used to call me.
