RE: Mal Meninga?
My favourite Meninga memory was when, after being one of the highest-paid players in the game, captaining his country 23 times, playing in the first ever Qld Origin team and captaining Qld for 3 years, receiving the Order of Australia for services to Rugby League, Mal said at a press conference, "What's rugby league ever done for me?"

I wouldn't let a player with that attitude anywhere near a professional team, let alone a coach. As for Mal's record as Qld Coach, does anyone seriously think that, when a team with Slater, Inglis, Cronk, Lockyer, Thurston, Hodges, Cam Smith, etc, etc, wins a game, the credit belongs to the coach?

Mal's political career was a much better assessment of his character than any other phase of his life. He couldn't answer the first question he ever received, so he withdrew his candidature.

RE: Mal Meninga?
A legend obviously but would he make the grade as a club coach,as Farmduck says he is lucky enough to coach some of the greatest ever players who have graced our game whilst coaching Queensland, heart says yes but head says not sure.Undecided

RE: Mal Meninga?
Welcome %.

As Billie and Farmo elude to, it'd be nice in theory to have a name like Mal Meninga back at Saints, but coaching St Helens out of the mess we're in at the moment and coaching a Queensland side consisting of those kind of players are two drastically different jobs. It'd be an interesting test of how good a coach he really is, but is McManus willing to take that risk? I don't think so.

"'SUID'? Yes... That's what they used to call me. 'Saint Until I Die'. That was my name. I am The Swede. And I come back to you now at the turn of the tide."
