why hkr?

I've read through parts of it and it is very un-Hudgell. I'll wait to see what he says but might be worth keeping an eye on it.

as far as saying the stobart deal is a big part of the problem, engage put in around a £1million. bradford need £1million. if the other teams need this we're still way short. you've just gotta manage it in a business way. if the crouds arent there to support the cap, dont spend the cap.

And Bradford wouldn't have seen anywhere near £1 million of that money so that is irrelevant.

If all is to be believed then the "extra" heinz sponsorship is only bringing in just short of what was on offer from a paying ''main" sponsor anyway.

I dont understand how Bradford are fully spending the cap anyway, average players on massive wages!

RE: Rugby League is 'bankrupt'.
I think its more to do with the size of the squad.....lots of average quality players to cover injuries, which has actually been a good tactic this year. I have no idea how much individuals are paid so not sure about the "massive" bit. Other than a few exceptions we seem to have a league full of average players ........anyone outstanding has generally been given the opportunity to go to Oz or Union.
I would imagine there'll be some interest in the average players long before the corpse has rotted. Obviously Leeds wouldn't be interested, I was thinking of the 12 other "lesser" clubs.

What the hell is home grown ?

Kids, if they are given the opportunity are going to sign for the most successful club they can.
Suggesting any club grows its own is ridiculous, they have to come from somewhere, they can't all be born in LS1 with blue and amber toenails and sign on the dotted before the umbilical is cut.
Any kid that looks promising will be poached long before they reach their potential with the club they got "noticed" at, thus denying that club that talent and the opportunity to "home grow".
But that is the nature of the business, you can't blame the kids for making the best move they can, or the bigger clubs from cherry picking talent.
But it is far too simple to sit there like a dick, and suggest growing your own players is the answer to a clubs financial woe's, when you know your own more successful club will get pretty much the pick of availability anyway.

RE: Rugby League is 'bankrupt'.
Going off the offical definitions you either have Club Trained players who have played for the club for 3 seasons BEFORE they turn 21 or they are classed as federation trained if they have come from another UK club (or french in Catalans case) This season at least 8 of the players in any 25 man squad should be club trained.

The clubs with the more developed youth systems are also likely to produce more players than they need, or players who aren't necessarily right for them but are great for other clubs so it makes sense for other teams to 'poach' players from other clubs.

leeds will always get the best players?

dont agree with that. you just have to look at the ellis signing to see that.

leeds are full of players who support leeds, are from leeds. thats the difference.same with wigan and saints.

But "big" clubs will often be the more attractive alternative to a 15 year old who is just being noticed. If a young lad from Bradford was offered contracts by Leeds and Wakefield then it would be easy to see why Leeds would seem a more attractive offer.
