Man of Steel: Early Contenders
Now that we've had a good few rounds of the Super League season and the table is starting to take shape, who do people think will be in the running for the man of steel award based on current form this year?
Last years winner Rangi Chase is currently leading the way in terms of try assists but I get the impression that people aren't quite as impressed with his form as they were last year. Sam Tomkins currently leads the way statistically in a number of categories such as metres made, clean breaks, tackle busts while also being high up the list of try scorers and try assister's. Danny Brough also seems to be going quite well as Huddersfield and seems to be behind most of the good things that they are doing this year. Or perhaps this year we will go back to the days of the man of steel being a hard working forward. Andy Lynch and Jeff Lima are probably the two best prop forwards in the competition so far this year so maybe they will be in with a shout. What do people think? ![]() |

RE: Man of Steel: Early Contenders
I think Tomkins and Roby will inevitably be up there with the contenders come the end of the season (injuries permitting) as both are such key players in the teams who 99% of the time perform well.

Statistically Tomkins would appear to be the front runner for the award this year, yet Wigan's player of the season leaderboard on RLFans suggests differently. Wigan's best players this season according to that are: 1. Gareth Hock 2. Brett Finch =3. Mike McIlorum =3. Jeff Lima 5. Darrell Goulding 6. Harrison Hansen 7. Sam Tomkins. After today's game Tomkins will probably move up to 5th in that list, but it would be interesting if Tomkins is the man of steel favourite despite the fans who watch him every week not having him as the best player of the season so far. Roby will no doubt be among the contenders yet again as he'd incredibly important to Saints. In some respects it seems he's THE most important Saints player. He was sin binned against Widnes and they were able to get back into the game. He was closed down and given no space by Wigan in the derby and Saints subsequently looked poor. Without Roby Saints don't really look that impressive. ![]() |

In a way we are at risk of getting into a situation where he is too important.
Those selections are interesting, I guess they are based on match by match selections? |

RE: Man of Steel: Early Contenders
Read the whole thing, it is quite clearly discussing two players both of whom perform well 99% of the time. Whats the issue ron?
