Joe Mellor
I've just read on Twitter that Joe Mellor is to rejoin Widnes on a one month loan deal.
Sounds like a sensible deal for both parties as Widnes seem to be a bit weak in the halves while Wigan really need him to get some regular game time to see whether he will be good enough to be a first team player next year. RE: Joe Mellor
Good move for both parties, as you say. Widnes looked alright when O'Brien came in and added a bit of spark to their midfield, hopefully for them, Mellor can do the same, except on Friday night.
"'SUID'? Yes... That's what they used to call me. 'Saint Until I Die'. That was my name. I am The Swede. And I come back to you now at the turn of the tide." |

RE: Joe Mellor
I hope he hits the ground running and starts off his loan deal in excellent form!
Mind you, 'hits the ground running' is an apt phrase, because for a player who used to run rings round players à la Sam Tomkins at academy level his running game has all but disappeared since he picked up that serious knee injury.Hopefully this move will help him get back some of that confidence he used to have in running with the ball. If he does that then he could become a very good player. The positive effect of his injury was that it meant he had to work more on his passing and kicking game so those skills have improved, but at the moment he's a player who looks to pass all the time; the Joe Mellor of old would always look for a gap to go through. ![]() |
