Rugby League World Champions Leeds Rhinos have announced that they have expanded their annual Armed Forces Day event for 2012 with the home game against Hull FC designated as the main focus.

The Rhinos Armed Forces Day event is now in its third year and once again, Headingley Carnegie will host the annual Royal Navy and Royal Marines Origin match between the East and West teams as a curtain raiser to win the Hesco Bastion Trophy. In addition, Leeds will wear a one off kit for the Super League clash against Hull FC to raise funds and awareness for the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC). The lime green and steel shirt will be available in replicas for supporters to purchase with £2.50 from each shirt going direct to the charity.

There will be a minutes silence before the game to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country which will be particularly poignant this year following the tragic loss of life for our own Yorkshire Regiment during the last twelve months. The Rhinos are honored that members of the families of the six servicemen killed in Afghanistan from the Yorkshire Regiment earlier this year will be at the game to remember their loved ones and accept our appreciation for their sacrifice.

The day of appreciation was introduced in 2010. The match is the centre piece of a day's long celebration of the efforts of the brave men and women who are serving their country overseas with activities taking place during the day to raise funds for charities that help ex-servicemen. There will also be a discount ticket offer for all armed forces personnel and their families to attend the game.

Besides the action on the field a series of events will be staged by Royal Navy & Royal Marine personnel before and at the halftime intervals of the matches to entertain the spectators. The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity will also be present throughout to highlight the work they do for the welfare of all Naval Service personnel as well as raising money to enable them to continue their work.

Commenting on the day, England captain and Leeds Rhinos star Jamie Peacock MBE said, "Our Armed Forces do an incredible job 365 days a year but it is great that we have set aside a day when we can show them our appreciation for the work they do. I know from speaking to the lads who have played in the previous games, that the opportunity to play at Headingley Carnegie is a massive thrill for them and a chance for them to enjoy their Rugby League and get away from the obvious pressures they face on a daily basis. It is great that we will be visibly supporting a good cause with our one off kit for this game as well."

The Origin match will kick off at 5.45pm. For more information on the State of Origin game visit the RNRL website at http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/royalnavyrugbyleague

The replica charity shirt will be available in the Leeds Rugby Store and online at http://www.therhinos.co.uk from Saturday 16th June at 9.00am. In addition to mark the launch of the charity shirt, selected Rhinos players and Ronnie the Rhino to be on hand to sign supporters new charity shirts from 11am until 1pm on 16th June. The charity shirt is in the colours of steel and lime green with sublimated sponsor badges along with the embroidered badge of the Leeds Rhinos and Berrys on the front. The charity shirt is available in adult sizes XS - 4XL and ladies size 8 - 18 both priced at £42.50, with the kids shirt available in ages 6 - 14 priced at £32.50.

RE: Leeds Charity Shirt
lol i just wouldnt go near one, I cannot believe that a shirt priced 42.50 only generates 2.50 profit. I wouldnt go near one, the clubs are clearly making a good amount of profit from "charity".

RE: Leeds Charity Shirt
Completley agree with the above, all profit from the shirt should go to charity, they seem to be doing it for the wrong reasons

Warringtons cost £45 to buy and £5 went to charity

Agree with this. Its appalling. Clubs will do anything for profit. Sold their soul to the devil.

Deeply embarrassing being connected to the club when they do things like this. Its bad enough on the pitch at the moment but this is bottom of the barrel stuff leeds!

Disgrace.
