Brough to lead Giants

Brough to lead Giants

Huddersfield Giants Friday 7 Sep 2012 9:27am

Danny Brough will lead out the Huddersfield Giants on Sunday in the West Yorkshire derby against Leeds Rhinos at the John Smith’s Stadium (kick off 3pm). The 29 year old half back has recovered from illness that kept him out last week and is named by Head Coach Paul Anderson as captain with Luke Robinson being vice-captain.

"We have tried a few different people to lead the side out recently but I have now settled on Danny Brough as my captain and Luke will assist him as vice-captain. Both are in the leadership group, both are Internationals and both have the respect of all within our camp. The responsibility of being captain is a large one at this club and I am sure that Danny will get great support from the fans as well as his teammates in the role. He is a very proud man who will lead with his actions on and off the field and ultimately his hunger to win is something that I expect to see all my players demonstrate as he consistently has this year."

Danny Brough said "I am very proud to captain the club – it’s an honour I had thought about when I first joined the club and could see what a great bunch of players we had. Obviously it’s new to me as it’s not like Scotland where we only got together once a year - this is a day in day out responsibility and one that did take me a bit by surprise when Paul Anderson approached me yesterday but I had a think overnight as he did and I was delighted when he confirmed my role the day after. I have had a chat to the lads already as a group and asked for their help as we go along which I know I will get and for now we just have to knuckle down and prepare for Sunday’s game. It will be a big crowd and it will be nice to lead us out with the armband on and the fans can be assured we will be doing all we can to get ourselves to Old Trafford in October."
