Scott Murrell to leave Hull KR

Hull Kingston Rovers Tuesday 14 Aug 2012 4:34pm

Hull KR have confirmed that Scott Murrell will be leaving the club at the end of the season when his current contract expires.

The 26-year-old joined the Robins ahead of the 2006 campaign and was a key part of the side that dominated National League One before defeating Widnes 29-16 in the Grand Final to secure promotion to Super League. He scored a try and a drop goal on that famous day and was also named as the National League One Young Player of the Year that season.

He has spent the past six years in the red and whites' squad and is the second longest-serving player at the club having made over 150 appearances in a Rovers' shirt.

Robins' Chairman, Neil Hudgell, was quick to pay tribute to Murrell's contribution to the cause during the last seven seasons and said:

“Scott is hugely popular within the club, and the game generally. He is of course a survivor from our National League days, and was a try scorer in that Grand Final success over Widnes. I would like to personally place on record my thanks to Scott for all his efforts down the years and he will always be welcome here. I am sure our fans will, at the right time, give him the send off he deserves.”

Murrell will be missing for at least the next two weeks, following an injury sustained against Bradford.
