Leigh seek repeat performance in the Cup

Rugby League Monday 23 Apr 2012 4:26pm

Paul Rowley is confident that lightning can strike for a second time in next week’s Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth round tie between Leigh Centurions and Halifax at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday April 29.

Having masterminded an impressive 32-18 victory over their Co-operative Championship rivals at Halifax last week, Leigh’s coach know his players will not lack self belief as they look to reach the last eight of Rugby League’s oldest and most prestigious knockout competition.

“We enjoyed the win and it’s allowed us to go into the Cup weekend on a positive note and gives us the perfect platform to build for another big game,” said Rowley.

“We’ve got the upmost respect for Halifax and we know they’ll come at us hard and determined to make up for the result so it’s going to be another very tough game but we’ve got a very healthy environment at the club and the lads are all confident.

“Both sides have been presented with a great opportunity because getting through to a Challenge Cup quarter-final is a big achievement for any club. It would be great for us to get there and it would give us something to be very proud of so we’re desperate to get our name in the bag for the next stage.

“We’ve got a passionate set of lads and there are a lot of fearless young players here who would relish the chance to take on some of the game’s biggest teams so we’re going into the game with no fear and very keen to progress.”

Tickets for the Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth round tie Leigh Centurions v Halifax at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday April 29 (2.00pm) cost from ÂŁ13 adults, ÂŁ8 concessions and ÂŁ5 juniors and can be purchased by visiting www.leighsportsvillage.co.uk/tickets
