Young Lion ready for Giant roar

Young Lion ready for Giant roar

Rugby League Tuesday 24 Apr 2012 2:56pm

Swinton Lions winger Kevin Penny is ready for the biggest test of the season so far as he aims to help the Championship club spring a Carnegie Challenge Cup shock by knocking Super League opponents Huddersfield Giants out of the competition on Sunday April 29 (3.00pm).

Penny scored two tries in the 70-10 victory over Gateshead Thunder in the last round of the Cup and he’ll be hoping he can get on the scoresheet again as Swinton aim to emulate giant-killers Featherstone Rovers, who knocked Castleford Tigers out of the Cup in round four.

“It’s great to be involved at this stage in the competition and it’s a big achievement for any club to reach the fifth round,” said Penny. “It’s a cliché now but anything can happen in the Cup. Featherstone showed that last week and we have to go into the weekend full of self-belief.

“Everyone’s excited for the game. We’ve got a great squad and the boys are all looking forward to the test. We’re going into this game with no fear and with nothing to lose.

“We’re massive underdogs so there’s no expectation on our shoulders and that’s to our advantage. It doesn’t get any tougher than taking on a team at the top of Super League but we’re capable of scoring points and it would be truly special if we could pull one out of the bag.

“We’re in good form and we’re starting to gather momentum now and if we play to our best we can put ourselves in with a good chance of causing an upset.”

Tickets for the Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth round tie, Huddersfield Giants v Swinton lion at the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday April 29 (3.00pm) cost from just £15 Adults, £10 Concessions and £5 Under 16s and can be purchased on the day.

Tickets for the 2012 Carnegie Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday August 25 cost from just £21 and are now on sale. Family tickets giving access to one of British sport’s most historic fixtures to two adults and two children are also available, priced £55 or £79.
