Faiumu commends Brough’s England inclusion
Rugby League Thursday 7 Jun 2012 5:34pm
Huddersfield Giants hooker David Faiumu is relishing the chance to go head to head with his Giants team-mate Danny Brough in the International Origin Series when Exiles and England clash at Langtree Park, St Helens on Saturday June 16 (6.45pm).
New Zealander Faiumu believes Brough is a great inclusion for the England squad for the International Origin match – but is looking forward to ensuring the scrum-half has an experience he’d rather forget.
“Danny Brough is one of the best kickers in the world and a great inclusion for the England squad,” said the former Kiwi international.
“Looking ahead to the Rugby League World Cup next year, you need players that can kick Australia and New Zealand in to submission.
“He has many great attributes and is skilful in different areas, not just kicking, but passing and speed too. He is constantly improving and the England squad inclusion is testament to him as a player.”
Danny Brough is joined by Huddersfield team mates Eorl Crabtree and Leroy Cudjoe in the England 22-man select to challenge the Exiles, which Faiumu believes will provide a unique spectacle for Giants supporters.
“It will be fantastic to play against the Huddersfield Giants players should they make the final 17-man squad,” said the 28 year-old.
They are all great players that will represent England well. It will be fantastic for the Giants fans to see us on the same pitch but for different teams and should be a big spectacle.
The Giants hooker was part of the inaugural Exiles squad that successful beat England in the 2011 International Origin Match at Headingley Carnegie and hopes to return to the field for the Exiles this year.
“I love the concept of testing England with an Exiles squad,” said Faiumu. “It is a great event for English fans to witness and can only benefit the sport over here.
“I had the best time in camp with the squad last year and I am really happy to make the 22-man squad again this year. It would be fantastic to pull on that Exiles shirt again.
“For me, it is a great chance to get back in to limelight and would be a proud moment to represent the Exiles. I am also representing my family back home and a great chance for them to see me playing representative Rugby League again.”
Tickets for both matches in the International Origin Series are now on general sale and can be purchased through the RFL Ticket office by visiting www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk.
