Sheffield Eagles have further strengthened in wide areas with the arrival of Ben Blackmore from Featherstone Rovers.

The Eagles continue to add new faces to their full-time environment with director of rugby Mark Aston fulfiing his promise to add another winger to the fold, with Blackmore penning a ??-year deal.

Blackmore will compete with the likes of Rob Worrincy, fellow new signing Gary Lo and young gun Ryan Millar as the Eagles continue their close season recruitment drive.

“Like many of the players we have brought to Sheffield Eagles during the close season, Ben is another young and exciting prospect,” Aston told www.sheffieldeagles.com

“He fits the profile of the players we are wanting to work with, and like many who have come through the door, he arrives with a good background and plenty of potential.”

The Castleford-born winger came through the ranks at his local club Castleford Tigers making his debut in 2012 in their Super League clash with Hull FC.

After gaining valuable experience with the likes of Doncaster, Huddersfield and Batley, he signed for Featherstone in 2014.

Last season he scored 15 tries in 23 appearances in all competitions, contributing to Rovers’ eventual run to claiming the Championship Shield.

“His ability isn’t in doubt and you know that because he was given an opportunity at Super League level,” Aston continued.

“He has a good grounding and he knows what it is like to succeed at Championship level too. He has good experience for a player of his age and he knows what it takes to succeed in this division.”

With competition for places expected to be lively, Aston knows that he will have a hard decision come February when he selects his side for the opening day clash with Workington Town.

“We have four good wingers, there is versatility there, the signs are positive,” he confirms.

“We have a really good mix with the lads we have here and the players we have brought in, it is exciting times.”
