Eagles sign Nathan Chappell

Wednesday 22 Jun 2016 5:50pm
Sheffield Eagles have signed Nathan Chappell for the remainder of the 2016 season from amateur side Huddersfield Underbank Rangers.

Chappell, 26, can play at centre and as a second row forward and has been awarded the number 25 jersey.

After coming through the Huddersfield Giants ranks, Nathan joined Featherstone Rovers for the 2011 & 2012 seasons before heading down under to Australia joining Canberra Raiders Cup side Golburn Workers Bulldogs.

He re-joined the Rovers for the 2015 season, scoring seven tries in 12 appearances and could go straight into contention for Friday’s match against them at the SHU Sports Park (kick off 8.00pm).

Speaking of signing for the Eagles, Chappell said, “I’m delighted to have agreed a deal to join the Eagles. They are going through a tough spell at the moment and I hope I can be part of a revival to turn the season around.”

“It’s a great club and I know some of the boys from my time at Featherstone. Training has gone really well so far and I’m eager to get back out on the pitch.”

Eagles Director of Rugby Mark Aston added, “It’s great we have secured Nathan’s services until the end of the season.

“He played under Daryl Powell a few seasons ago and comes highly recommended. I’d like to thank ex-Eagle Rocky Turner who is currently coaching at Underbank for brining Nathan to my attention.

“He’s a tough, resilient player and gives us further options at centre or second row. It’s no secret we have been looking to bring players in; we have a small squad and need competition for places, Nathan’s signing gives us that.

“I hope over the next few days to bring more players into the squad, we are in a dogfight at the moment and all the players and staff are determined to turn things around.”
