Agar eager to keep Smith

Wakefield Wildcats Friday 6 Jul 2012 11:43am

Wakefield coach Agar hopes that when Smiths contract comes to an end at the close of the season, he has at least a chance of keeping the Rhinos player.

He told the Wakefield Express, "If a time came when he was up for grabs there would be plenty of people in for him."

"To get him on a month’s loan is really important but I would like to think we can make a good impression on him and he will certainly help us out on the field."

Agar revealed that he is hoping to strengthen his side further in the future, but the are not looking for players on the open market, instead opting for players still in contract to other clubs who are looking to release them, presumably on loan deals.

"We are looking to strengthen up front that’s for sure and we are probably going to try to bring more depth into our outside backs. We are not after too many people on the open market. We are talking to a couple of clubs about players who have time left on their contracts but for whatever reason their clubs have recruited or have salary cap issues.

"The open market has got silly at times this year. We are not able to compete with the top six or seven clubs and the cash thrown about there."
