Tomkins Will Miss Super League Season Start After Surgery

Tuesday 10 Nov 2015 2:27pm
Wigan Warriors have today issued an injury update on Sam Tomkins.

Sam was recently ruled out of the Autumn Internationals Series with New Zealand after failing to recover from a knee injury which occurred early last season and which has kept him out of action since he last played for the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL on August 30th.

The 26-year-old, who re-joins Wigan Warriors for the 2016 Super League season, returned to the north-west to be assessed by the Club’s medical team and Chairman Ian Lenagan has provided the following update.

"Sam Tomkins was seen by a senior and well-respected Orthopaedic Consultant who recommended surgery to deal with the posterior cruciate ligament injury which Sam suffered while playing for the New Zealand Warriors early last season. The surgery was performed successfully on Friday 5th November and it is anticipated that Sam will make a full recovery.

“However, he will miss the start of the First Utility 2016 Super League Season and Wigan fans can look forward to him returning around the Easter period.”
